Negro League Baseball

I am not a sports fan, but I am very interested in African-American History of all kinds,  mostly music and musicians from decades ago, but also anywhere we really made a difference.  This inspires me and besides, I know it sounds cliche' but you really don't know where you're going unless you know from whence you came.   The guys below overcame all the odds just to do the thing that they enjoyed most even when there was a visible color barrier. They sacrificed everything even their lives it wasn't easy, but they overcame. Today, we have every opportunity for an education and things that these guys were denied, we even have a "black president."  The men below never even imagined that there would ever be a "black president" but it goes to show you that determination, respect and a goal will get you everywhere.

Below you will read about "Bud Fowler"  now this guy came decades before "Jackie Robinson". Why is it that you never really heard about him?  This was the late 1800's early 1900's and he was the only black guy on the several teams he played for and you will also see the names and pictures of the "NEGRO BASEBALL LEAGUE."   For all of you Ladies I found this VERY interesting  - an African -American female that played in the Negro Leagues

Toni Stone maybe one of the best ballplayer you've never heard of. CHECK HER OUT!!

I found my information from several sources, two of the sources I have listed at the bottom of the page and the others well, I am going to leave you to do the research for yourself.   You might want to research the names of the guys on the team, it could be someone related to you.   Maybe you want to research their batting averages etc.,  to see what kind of records they broke back then because negro teams weren't recorded along with the white teams.  There's a lot of interesting information you can find on this subject if you research it,  I hope I have dropped a little knowledge your way today.
You learn something new everyday and if you don't you weren't paying attention!

John W. "Bud" Fowler (March 16, 1858 – February 26, 1913), born John W. Jackson, was an African-American baseball player, field manager, and club organizer. He is the earliest, known African-American player in organized professional baseball; that is, the major leagues and affiliated minor leagues.
